rural farm out of place veterinarian pony giving birth had grown bonded with bred goats orchard rents bet a visit sophisticated country horses

Adam: Refresh my memory. Didn't you tell me once that you grew up in a                 rural area?

Sara: Not exactly. My grandparents lived on a       farm way out in the           country and I'd spend every summer holiday with them.

Adam: It's hard to imagine a                sophisticated city girl like you being at home on a farm. Didn't you feel               out of place?

Sara: Not at all. I always looked forward to visiting them. I used to get in trouble in school because I drew horses when I should have been taking notes.

Adam: That's surprising. Were          horses really that important to you?

Sara: They certainly were. Horses were my passion. My grandfather was a               veterinarian. He let me see this one black       pony being born.

Adam: That must have been a fascinating experience. I've only seen animals               giving birth on television.

Sara: It was one of the most thrilling nights of my life. I couldn't wait to go back every year to see how much it            had grown. My grandfather used to send me pictures and I'd hang them on my wall.

Adam: Sounds like you really              bonded with it. Was that the only animal you were friendly with?

Sara: It wasn't the only one, but it certainly was the most special. My grandfather, in comparison, seemed to love all the animals equally. He       bred cattle, raised chickens, and he even had these two lovely little        goats.

Adam: I'm curious about something. Are goats as stubborn as they say?

Sara: These two weren't. They were very gentle. It wasn't all fun and games, though. I had chores to do. I had to wake up early every morning to milk the cows.

Adam: You? Milking cows? I wish I could have seen that.

Sara: It wasn't all I had to do. I also used to go with my grandmother to pick apples and cherries in the          orchard. We would bring the fruit back to the kitchen and make delicious pies.

Adam: You must have been terribly upset when you had to go back home. Whatever happened to the farm?

Sara: My grandmother is still there. Come to think of it, she         rents rooms to people who come for holidays.

Adam: Sara, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Sara: You      bet I am! I'm calling her this second to ask if we can come for          a visit.
